How to Read Your EcoVadis Scorecard (and What to Do with It)

Most companies open their EcoVadis scorecard, look at the overall number, and close the tab. That number is the least useful part of the document. The scorecard is a structured breakdown of exactly what you demonstrated and what you did not, tied to a Corrective Action Plan that shapes your next assessment. Reading it properly takes fifteen minutes and helps you turn the next 11 months into steady progress instead of a scramble before the next reassessment.

The Layout of Your EcoVadis Scorecard, Section by Section

As of September 2026, your scorecard appears under My Performance as soon as it publishes, and an email confirms it landed. The first thing you see is Visualize Your Score, which breaks your overall number down by theme and by the seven management indicators beneath each theme: policies, measures, reporting, coverage, certifications, endorsements, and 360° Watch. This is where you see whether a weak overall score comes from one thin theme or a consistent gap across all four.

Below that sits the Strengths and Improvement Areas list. Strengths are the practices you demonstrated with accepted evidence. Improvement areas are the practices that were absent, or present but not documented well enough to credit. Each improvement area links directly to your Corrective Action Plan, which we cover in detail below.

The Corrective Action Plan: Why It Still Matters Even Though It Does Not Touch Your Score

Every improvement area on your published scorecard automatically generates a corrective action. Each one starts at the status Not Started. The Corrective Action Plan itself does not affect your score. EcoVadis does not review it, and the only thing that changes what your scorecard says is a full reassessment.

That does not make it optional in practice. The trading partners you share your scorecard with can see your Corrective Action Plan alongside your strengths, improvement areas, and 360° Watch findings. Your customers may also request you to do certain corrective actions via the EcoVadis platform. A plan still sitting at Not Started six months after a scorecard arrives reads as an intention nobody acted on, not as neutral information. Set a real status on every action, including the ones you have decided not to pursue this cycle, and use it as your evidence checklist. How Long Is Your Scorecard Valid, and Who Can See It?

A scorecard stays valid for 12 months from its publication date. Nothing forces a reassessment automatically inside that window. What triggers one is a new sharing request that arrives more than 12 months after your last assessment, and a customer can request your reassessment up to 3 months before your current scorecard expires.

Sharing itself runs on its own clock. A request arrives by email and on your dashboard, and you have 7 days to decline it before EcoVadis accepts it on your behalf automatically. Once accepted, you have 30 days to revoke that partner's access by contacting support. A partner who receives your scorecard sees your score by theme, your strengths and improvement areas, your 360° Watch findings, your Corrective Action Plan, and any audits on file. Your detailed score breakdown stays private to you.

You are not limited to reactive sharing, either. You can proactively share your scorecard with any trading partner through the platform, which is often faster than waiting for them to request it.

Is Your Score Good or Bad? What the Network Is Actually Averaging

A number on its own tells you little. EcoVadis's own Sustainability Ratings Index gives the context many companies never check before deciding whether their score is a problem.

The network average score reached 57.1 in 2025, up from 42.4 in 2015.

Experience explains more of the gap than most companies expect. Companies rated for the first time average 51.5. Companies on their second assessment or later average 59.9, and companies with 10 or more years in the network average 63.2. That gap holds regardless of company size: small companies with 25 to 99 employees have actually outscored companies with 1,000 to 9,999 employees every year since 2021. If this is your first scorecard and the number looks low, that is the norm, not a signal that something went wrong.

EcoVadis is explicit that a rating reflects the information available at the time of assessment, is not a guarantee of future performance, and should be read alongside other sources of information about a company. What to Do in the First Two Weeks After Your Scorecard Arrives

The scorecard email is easy to skim and file away. A short, deliberate review in the first two weeks sets up the rest of your cycle far better than reading it once under deadline pressure eleven months from now.

• Record your validity date and work backward to your realistic next submission deadline, keeping the 30 September cutoff for same year publication in view.
• Read every improvement area, not just the overall score, and note which ones are practice gaps versus documentation gaps.
• Check each theme score against the 30 point floor. A single theme below 30 disqualifies you from any medal regardless of your overall number.
• Review your 360° Watch findings. This is the one part of your score built from public sources, and it is easy to forget until it costs you a medal.
• Compare each theme against the network averages so you know where a small improvement moves you the most.
• Confirm the scorecard actually reached the partner who requested it, especially if you registered through anything other than their original invitation link.
