The Situation

H&T Presspart's Sustainability Strategy

H&T Presspart supplies drug delivery devices and components to pharmaceutical companies worldwide, a market where sustainability performance, trust and cooperation are of high materiality. EcoVadis came in as a customer request already in 2020 and individually for all sites, but this did not stay that way. As the company developed its sustainability strategy and began preparing for CSRD, the aim became to bring strategy, CSRD and day-to-day ESG practice together to harmonize processes, reporting, actions and policies across the H&T Presspart sites.

The comprehensive structure of the EcoVadis questionnaire is what made it a genuinely useful platform: The rating assesses how a company manages ESG topics and returns concrete feedback on where practices can be strengthened. Although EcoVadis gives extended feedback on the scoring and what they would like to see, the challenge is year by year to read that feedback precisely and know how to act on it across a division where each site stands on its own.

The Challenge

Three Sites, Three Assessments, One Standard to Build

EcoVadis assesses each H&T Presspart site on its own, reflecting strongly how the sites are managed. Each one operates with a good deal of independence, so most of the evidence naturally sits close to where the work happens.

Each site has built its own EcoVadis practice, with real strengths of its own. What was harder to see from inside one site was exactly where to focus next. The site experts and colleagues who own the evidence brought broad, cross-functional expertise, carrying HSE and quality alongside sustainability. Turning that expertise into precise answers, topic by topic and question by question, takes a specialist focus that a broad role does not always have room for.

The sites also worked side by side rather than together, each finding its own way to the same answers. Without an easy way to compare notes, that meant solving similar questions more than once across the division.

There was a practical side too: Marc Severin, who leads the EcoVadis project across the division, works with documents that recur throughout the questionnaire. Whenever one changed, such as the ESG policy, the new version had to be attached again to numerous questions.

The Sunhat Moment

Clear Priorities and One Shared Documentation Standard

What improved first was focus. Instead of interpreting the full questionnaire, the team received a gap analysis that turned EcoVadis feedback into a ranked list of the gaps to close for a higher score, each with a concrete suggestion for how to close it.

Those improvements were built to last beyond the rating. With the Sunhat team, H&T Presspart enhanced their ESG policy and extended the divisional report along CSRD standards, describing practices the company genuinely runs. Both now feed into its CSRD preparation.

With the documentation in one Proof Library, harmonization followed. Each site still owns its own evidence but can also directly see best practices and examples across the division.

Working through the questionnaire has changed, too. A document used for many questions is now exchanged in three clicks instead of question by question. Alison Quilliam, who manages the evidence at the Blackburn site, notes that this keeps the documentation always ready rather than merely stored:

In the most recent cycle, all three sites improved: +11 points (Bronze to Silver), +12 (Silver to Gold) and +15 (Bronze to Gold).
